Actress Liz Sheridan, who played Helen in the hit television series “Seinfeld”, died in her sleep of natural causes early Friday morning in New York, her representative confirmed to CBS News.
He was 93 years old five days before his death.
The New York performer was already known for her work in television and film when she was selected for a role in the series “Alf”, in which she played as the curmudgeon neighbor Raquel Ochmonek from 1986 to 1990.
Soon after, she went on to play Helen Seinfeld, the protective mother of Jerry Seinfeld, the lead character of “Seinfeld”, and appeared in 20 episodes of the television show.
Throughout her career she appeared in several other television shows and films. She was also a dancer, and performed in several Broadway plays, including in the musical “Happy End” in 1977 along with Christopher Lloyd and a young Meryl Streep.
She also enjoyed presenting her one-woman show called “Mrs. Seinfeld Sings”.
Sheridan, whose birth name was Elizabeth Ann Sheridan, wrote a book about her love relationship in the 1950s with James Dean, whom she met in New York when the actor was 21 years old and had been in the Big Apple for a short time. “Dizzy and Jimmy”, as it was titled, is being adapted to become a film, said its representative.
“Liz fans around the world will continue to enjoy her extensive work in the coming years,” Hendon said in the statement. “She was always very grateful to her fans and felt blessed to have enjoyed decades of work in the entertainment business.”
Born in Rye, New York, in 1929, Sheridan began her career with supporting roles in series such as “Kojak”, “The White Shadow” and “Gimme a Break”, and was also part of Madonna's film “Who's That Girl”.
He also participated in television shows such as “One Day at a Time”, “Three's a Crowd”, “The A-Team” and “Murder, She Wrote”.
Sheridan is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, he added.
Sheridan's death comes less than two weeks after the death of Estelle Harris, who played George Constance's mother in the series “Seinfeld”. Harris also passed away at the age of 93.
