The Tottenham Hotspur Tarot: XVIII – The Moon

Mystical wanderers,,,,hello. I, Troy Parrott, Tarot Pro, am continuing our journey through and exploration of the Tarot. What else am I to do while recovering from an appendectomy?

We are nearly through through our our examination of the 22 major arcana cards, using a special North London themed deck of my own design. In this series we are looking at these special cards and how they may interpret your life in your tarot readings.

Today, we move on to Card XVIII: The Star.

XVIII: The Moon

Upright

Illusion, fear, anxiety, dreams, creativity

Inverted

Darkness, wildness, blockage

For as long as humans have walked this earth, we have been at least partially afraid of the dark. Night is when the scary things come out. The night hides its terrors, at least partially. And above it all shines the dim, celestial light of the moon.

The Moon represents fear. It illuminates, yes, but not well. It casts a faint pallor over the darkness, showing just enough to maybe light your path, but not so much to make anyone feel comfortable. The Moon can represent a time of dramatic change and uncertainty, when our individual or collective fears are cast in stark profile. In the Tottenham Tarot, the moon, coincidentally shaped like a football, itself is taken away completely and suddenly, with only the corona (virus) remaining.

The moon moves in cycles, from new to full and back to new. So too do periods of uncertainty and fear. The Moon calls you to examine what is causing fear and anxiety in your life — to look at it carefully and without shrinking away. Times may be confusing and uncertain — the Moon also represents illusion — and you may need to make confident decisions without seeing the full picture. Mistakes could be made, but things are obfuscated and hidden, and there are few alternatives at present.

Inverted, the Moon may represent that you are shrouded in darkness, i.e. it’s the new moon, meaning you are letting your fears and anxieties dominate you. It is easy to become overwhelmed in these situations, especially when you don’t know who or what to trust. It could also mean that you are avoiding confronting these fears head on — this could be (yet another) call to open yourself to the light of truth, even if the full picture is not forthcoming.

The nice thing about the night is that it never lasts forever. Eventually a new day will begin and with it comes the light. But that’s foreshadowing for tomorrow’s card. I’ll give you three guesses who’s on it, and the first two don’t count.

Come back tomorrow and we shall discuss the next card in the Tottenham Hotspur Tarot.
