Alberta's beautiful 'Cylon' Tricia Helfer returning to space for Syfy's Ascension

After spending (a brief) stint as a Texas Ranger, Donalda native Tricia Helfer is apparently returning to space.

Helfer, a former supermodel who grew up on an Alberta grain farm, will star in the Syfy miniseries, Ascension, which is reportedly about murder in deep space.

Helfer is probably best known for her role as the villainous but complex Cylon Number Six on Battlestar Galactica. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ascension was created by Smallville’s Philip Levens and is described as “part Battlestar and part Downton Abbey.” It revolves around a century-long space shuttle journey that launched in 1963.  Fifty years into the mysterious mission, a young woman is murdered.

The 40-year-old actress will be returning to villain mode. Entertainment Weekly reports that she will be playing “a beautiful, manipulative and dangerous character named Viondra Denniger,” who is a powerful and shadowy figure on the shuttle.

The miniseries will air in November. It is unclear if it has a Canadian broadcaster yet.

Helfer was last seen in the action-drama Killer Women, a midseason replacement last year on ABC that was cancelled due to poor ratings. She has also starred in Two and a Half Men, Chuck, the TV reboot of The Firm and Robert Cuffley’s 2007 feature film, Walk All Over Me.
