Temperance: “While the Hanged Man represents physical restraint, Temperance symbolizes spiritual restraint. Love and life are precious and fragile, and they must be handled with care. Temperance is the light hand, the gentle touch. It is the wisdom of reserve, the virtue of silence. It is the quintessential symbol of spiritual transformation resulting from a careful alchemy of heart and mind, carried out with moderation and precision.”

Divinatory Meaning: “Spiritual protection; reserve; tranquility; moderation; communication; healing; sobriety; a collaborative creative work; a peaceful mind; a serene presence; a combining or reworking of energies; keeping careful guard over the emotional waters.”

Temperance as Challenger: “Energies are poured into destructive or wasteful endeavours; imbalance; a period of calm is disrupted; an outpouring of emotion; a need for greater sobriety; reserve is needed; anxiety; a wish for a peaceful life feels unfulfilled; a quarrel; a need to compromise.”

Magickal Uses: “Great for bringing balance and moderation, for soothing sorrow or anxiety, for improving communication, and for increasing cooperation and bringing good luck to partnerships. It can also be used to increase reserve, or reversed, to let go of reserve.”*

Here we have a message about balance, healing and the promise of bright futures. We are asked to be especially mindful and aware of our actions. This is not a time for hasty decisions or impulsive behaviour, and it is not a time to get caught up in victim or lack mentality.

This is a time to appreciate what we do have and work to attract more of the good stuff. There is no room for doom and gloom here, despite what chaos may be going on around us. It is about minding our reactions, and not allowing ourselves to be triggered. It is also about removing barriers in the form of limiting belief systems and anything that holds us back from our true destiny.

Watch for messages; it is no coincidence that there are wings on his shoes, wings on his head and the Caduceus on his arm; these are all significant of Mercury or Hermes, the messenger. By being in the present moment, and using all of your senses, you will find that the Universe desires to communicate with you on a much deeper level. Watch for synchronicity and watch for signs that have special or significant meaning for you personally. Know that the more you see… the more you see.

Use discretion and moderation at this time, watching your diet, getting proper nutrition and lots of water. Get fresh air and exercise daily. Treat your body with love and care and make time for yourself every day. You cannot move forward when you are feeling run ragged! You are only a meditation, a salt bath, a walk, a song, a creative project away from healing each and every day.
