Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) hands-on review

19 December 2017
Wait what?! So the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) are here to replace the Galaxy A5 (2017) and A7 (2015)? That sure makes perfect sense. Although, from a more serious perspective, what better way to show continuity with the acting flagship Galaxy S8 line? And since one is small, the other is larger, the latter gets a 'plus', right? Things are starting to sound a bit better already.

Got this phone with a Samsung Neon Flip Case but I'm not getting any notification lights when I receive text messages or whatsapp message. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Please post a full review of A8 (2018).

AnonD-690051, 07 Jan 2018all your friends are using beautiful phones, even your girl... moreTo me, curve or round corner and edge design are gimmicks not practical to use. I like squarish flat screen with reasonable bezel, it has the dual front speaker. I don't appreciate curve glass, it is difficult to apply screen protector repair and more expensive and the white line reflex on the edges and more fragile than a flat screen. The bezel I hold it and very handy even when taking a selfie, it is more EZ to hold than the bezel-less smartphone because you must hold a bezel-less frame to taking a selfie but I can grab the reasonable bezel to taking a selfie. The design depends on personals preference either the soap or brick designs, but I prefer brick design because it looks stunning and good looking even after 3years I feel the design is still new, it also helps me to hold the phone when my hand is wet. I can't stand with soap designs because it is old+retro and ugly and slippery. Xperia UI and Camera is quite nice, not bad, so I really don't know what are you talking about.

to everyone who say that the price is high
this must be a rumor because it is impossible for the price to be similar to the s8
also you will get an oled screen that none of the midrange smartphones have so the price has to be a little higher than the competitors plus a good camera that little midrange phones have

how do you feel about that?

If bezelless flagship is fragile then a midrange bezelless smartphone will even more fragile because the R&D and material used must be cheaper than a flagship.

                  Samsung thanks no.
600 eur for a midranger with old nougat, fugly curved screen and only 3000 mAh battery and lot of Samsung crap in it.
My moto X4 cost half the price and is twice as good.

                    I will choose a 5.5 inch 16:9 panel rather than a 5.6 inch 18:9 panel.

                    Its so small.
At least 6 inch 18:9 is needed.

                    One plus 5t is better.

Could've been utilized as a stereo speaker, instead of being bottom black oblivion bar like that..

The front bottom of the A8 has enough room to place a digital scanner. Why it has to be in a place of more difficult access? (Rear)

If you want mainly better screen and few more improvements and features - go for S8 which will be a bit more expensive.

I can see no chance of A8 2018 making good sales with price they predicted.

2016 comes, and both the A5 and A7 2016 have OIS on the rear.
It was this year (at CES, to be exact) that the OIS was dropped out of the A-series, maybe, like you think, to separate it from the flagship S and Note series (but that just gave it an even harder time to compete, because competitors like Asus and Huawei could give OIS and so much more for the same price bracket).
