The powerboat Ady Gil, run by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, was cut in two when hit by the Japanese whaling ship Shonan Maru, which the Ady Gil was protesting. The incident happened at Commonwealth Bay, East Antarctica, and the six crew members aboard the Ady Gil were rescued and apparently uninjured, New Scientist reports. The SSCS conducts yearly protests in the area, using boats to try to harass Japanese whalers, who have legal permission to hunt in those waters.
