Up for sale today is this Iowa state highway 7 sign. This is the very first style of numbered route marker, dating back to 1924 when the highway system was first devised, and used until 1926 when the familiar circles first came into production. Route 7 was replaced essentially by US highway 6 in 1934. There remains a Primary Road 7 sign painted on the side of a building in Grinnell!
The sign is flat printed on heavy gauge steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 4 pounds, 2 ounces, and is the correct size: 15 by 10 1/2 inches. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
