Five worst supercar crashes

There's no doubt a rush that comes with speed and the sound of a powerful engine that sings, roars and let's rip its sweet music like a well-tuned orchestra.

However, it can all turn sour in a split second with supercars as these pictures show. Are these really the 'worst' supercar crashes? There's no doubt they aren't - there will be more and worst ones to come when speed is combined a host of variables including poor maintenance, bad road conditions, alcohol, bravado and questionable judgement.

This took place in December 2011 along the Chugoku Expressway in the southern part of the Yamaguchi Prefecture near Shimonoseki, Japan and has been dubbed 'the most expensive car crash ever' with several Ferraris seriously damaged in the incident. The lead driver in a convoy of supercars out on a drive had lost control of his car, causing the cars following behind to crash in turn as they took evasive action. The cars involved included a rare Ferrari Testarossa, two Ferrari F430s, two Ferrari F355s, two Ferrari 360 Modenas, a Lamborghini Diablo and a Toyota Prius as well as three unspecified models of Mercedes-Benz. Estimated value of just the Ferraris involved in the accident is over RM20million. Fortunately, despite the amount of damage, no one was killed or seriously injured.

Three people weren't so fortunate in this collision which took place in Singapore in May 2012. The driver of the red Ferrari 599 GTO ran a red light at a cross road and crashed into a taxi that was crossing the junction. The Ferrari driver, the taxi driver and the passenger in the taxi were killed as a result. Two other people, a passenger in the Ferrari as well as a passing motorcyclist were seriously injured. The impact of the Ferrari smashing into the side of the taxi caused the engine of the taxi to fly out and land 30m away.

The crash happened about 25 miles north of Seattle, Washington on I-5. A Hyundai Santa Fe braked suddenly in heavy traffic and the Lamborghini couldn't stop in time. The Murcielago is capable of braking from 100 mph to zero in 4.4 seconds, so it's likely the driver wasn't paying much attention to the road.

Despite turning turtle, the driver of this Ferrari Modena was not seriously hurt. He was able to take this picture himself and send it to www.wreckedexotics as he was stretchered off to hospital.

Few details were available about how this Nissan Skyline came to be wrecked. The only thing we know is that it was involved in an accident in Malaysia. If you recognise the car and know the details of the accident it was in, please feel free to share it below in the comments section.

Until then, drive safely.
