Bacopa australis

Bacopa australis Bacopa australis is a stem aquarium plant. It has round-shaped leaves about 1,5 cm in size. Its wavy leaf blade is what makes it different from similar plants like Lysimachia or Micranthemum umbrosum. This plant can be placed in the background of a small tank or in the midground of the larger tank. Bacopa australis is a fast-growing and undemanding plant. It can be grown without CO2. However, injection of CO2 into the aquarium at the level of 10-15 mg/l results in more dense growth of the plant. The level of lightning in a tank should be at least 0.5 watts per liter or better 1 watt per liter.

Another distinctive feature of Bacopa australis, if compared with above mentioned Lysimachia and Micranthemum, is that it tends to creep across the bottom, thus making it easier to form lush dense groups of different shapes. Bacopa australis tolerates pruning well, even rough. Its bushes become even more dense after pruning. This plant should be pruned once in a while like other bush-forming aquatic plants, however, to prevent it from becoming too thick, since the lower stems can rot away from lack of light and nutrients.
