Limnophila hippuridoides has been sold under a number of confusing names, including L. aromatic and L. aromatic ‘Hippuroides’. The real L. aromatic is not an easy plant to grow in the aquarium, as well as not being as brightly colored. For this reason, Limnophila hippuridoides, which has 6-8 leaves per node, as opposed to the 2-3 leaves found on L. aromatic, has largely replaced L. aromatic in culture. Limnophila hippuridoides is a robust plant growing large and fast in excellent conditions, which means supplemental C)2, a nutritious substrate and regular fertilization. When crushed, the leaves and stems have a distinctive anise scent. Certain plants wax and wane in popularity over the years, but if you have a CO2 supplemented tank and have not had experience with this lovely plant, you should!
